Shelanu – reaching new audiences including royalty!

It’s been a thrilling month for us here at Shelanu!

Firstly as a previous Love Brum, Cause of the Month, we were asked if we could represent the organisation and Birmingham during Prince Harry and Megan Markle’s visit to Millennium Point on International Women’s Day. One of our souvenir range bags and a Migrating Birds pin were presented to the couple by Love Brum representatives during their visit. We hope they like them!

We have, in the past, also sold souvenir range pieces to Birmingham City Council’s Cabinet Office to be presented to visitors to Birmingham as civic gifts. Again, we were so excited that our work was being chosen to represent our city and the diversity in it. The Cabinet Office approached us again as a trip to Australia was planned for the handover of the Commonwealth Games from the Gold Coast to Birmingham for 2020.

In the image below you can just see a blue swallow brooch and a red swallow brooch worn by the ladies on the right. The brooches were presented as civic gifts from the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Cllr Anne Underwood (far left) to Mayor Tom Tate of the Gold Coast’s wife Mayoress Ruth Tate (second right) and Deputy Mayor Donna Gates (right); when they hosted her for lunch as part of her visit to the Gold Coast for the handover from Gold Coast to Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games in 2022. The other gentleman pictured is Mark Peters, CEO of GOLDOC the organising committee for the Gold Coast games.

We’re really proud to be representing Birmingham through the pieces we’ve designed and made. For more information on our work please visit the Craftspace website or shop!
