Making a welcome banner and last session with ASIRT

Throughout the weeks with the homework club we were designing a banner for ASIRT to use at Celebrating Sanctuary’s Refugee Week Festival at MAC on Saturday 23rd June.

The banner includes transfers of the children’s drawings which represent their ideas of welcome and the mapped lettering is taken from our Birmingham souvenir range, which celebrates the diversity of Birmingham. ASIRT are thrilled with the banner; they intend to display it in their offices and use it for other events in the future.

For the last session with the ASIRT homework club we worked with the children to make windmills which could be given as gifts and stamped copper key rings. Many of the children hadn’t used a hammer or worked with metal before and really enjoyed the opportunity to have a go.

“I’m going to put my key ring on my secret book!”
